Who doesn’t dread having head lice? Lice infestation is something that can send shivers down your spine – not to mention the manic itching it brings along to torture you.
As much disturbing as the problem really is, it does not have to be so hard to treat lice infestation. While you may not think twice before relying on shampoos and products containing harsh chemicals to help you get rid of head lice, we have some easy yet effective home treatments.
Try these natural remedies for head lice and be lice-free in no time!
1. Mayonnaise
To get rid of head lice, simply massage your scalp with mayonnaise, cover your head with a shower cap, and leave it overnight. In the morning, consider combing your hair with a lice comb thoroughly to get rid of all the lice that the mayonnaise has suffocated to death. You would want to use a dish detergent to cut through the grease of mayonnaise – but it will be worth it in the end!
2. Coconut oil
Smothering the lice with coconut oil is another helpful remedy to get rid of head lice.
Coconut oil traps those blood-sucking creatures so that they are unable to jump from one head to another or to any surface for that matter where they may live and breed. Simply smother the oil on to your hair before going to bed and wash your hair in the morning after combing with lice comb to make sure your head is completely or nearly free of lice.
3. Garlic
A paste made of garlic is another effective remedy for lice. It may smell bad but that’s exactly what kills the lice and their nits – we promise!
Simply add a few teaspoons of lime juice to 8 to 10 garlic cloves and make a paste. Apply it on the scalp and massage well. Leave it on for at least half an hour before rinsing it off with shampoo. You may repeat this treatment on a weekly basis for one or two months.
