A skincare routine always requires a few products that you must layer one after the other to fully see the results towards a healthy and radiant skin. It might not seem important but the way you layer your skincare products makes so much of a difference to the overall appearance and health of your skin.
Here is a step by step guide on how to layer skincare products well:
Step 1: Cleanser
The first step in your morning or night skin care routine is to cleanse the skin. In the morning it is important to clean away all the dirt, hair or sebum released at night so that you start your day with fresh clean skin.
On the other hand, your night care routine requires a cleanser because you want to wipe off all the makeup, dust and grime from the day.
Step 2: Toner or astringent
Many people avoid this step because they think its too harsh for the skin. This is true if you go for cheap astringents that only sting your skin. Make sure to get a toner that has moisture locking properties. Astringents are antibacterial and they clean away any lingering germs on the surface of the skin and help in tightening the pores.
Step 3: Spot treatment and serums
If you have acne then it is important that you spot treat the areas where there is a break out. When you layer skincare products, target sensitive spots on your face will help them heal faster. Make sure to use a high-quality acne treatment like a gel or cream. Don’t rub it in much and just let it stay.
If you have wrinkles or have entered your thirties then it’s high time to start using anti-aging serums for your eyes, smiles lines and on the neck. One of the best types of serums you can use is rich in antioxidants, and certain vitamins to help retain collagen levels.
Take a tea/coffee break
It is important that your serums dry and get absorbed completely before you layer on other products over your face.
Step 4: Moisturizer
When you layer skincare products, always think about moisture. Your skin needs to be hydrated to remain soft and supple. In addition to drinking lots of water every day, it is important that you use a non-comedogenic moisturizer for your face, neck and hands to prevent any wrinkles and blemishes on the skin. If your skin is dry, then it produces more oil to balance the moisture out and excess oil causes breakouts.
Step 5: Eye cream/gel (Night routine)
If you are doing a night routine then apply a thin layer of eye cream/gel under and on the side of your eyes. We like Elf’s Illuminating Eye Cream which works very effectively at a reasonable price. This area of the skin is the thinnest and most fragile, that is why it gets wrinkles the earliest. It also helps to prevent any puffiness in the morning.
Step 5: SPF (Day routine)
If you are doing a day routine and are about to head out then don’t forget applying a generous amount of SPF 50 to protect your skin against the harsh UV rays.
You have got all your layering technique sorted now and are on your way to great skin!
