Six Effective and Affordable DIY Body Scrubs

DIY body scrubs

Body scrubs are the best way to eliminate dead skin cells from your entire body so you can achieve smooth and glowing skin. However, since store-bought body scrubs can be expensive and harsh, the best thing to opt for would be DIY body scrubs.

To make things easier for you, here are 6 body scrubs that are effective and affordable.

Salt

Salt is a great exfoliant to relax the muscles. Most people opt for sea salt because it is less processed than other salts plus it has more minerals and elements that are gentler on the skin.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of finely ground salt
  • 1/3 cup of sweet almond oil
  • 8 drops of grapefruit oil, 8 drops of bergamot and 4 drops of peppermint

In a bowl, add the salt, essential oils and start mixing properly. Stop mixing when it reaches a moist sand consistency and start exfoliating your body.

Note: This scrub cannot be used on legs that have been freshly shaved. You can use the scrub before shaving so the oils can leave residue on the skin so shaving can be done smoother.

Sugar

Sugar is more gentle for the skin than salt is. Sugar has smaller particles, which is why it exfoliates better. Although, there are different kinds of sugars (white and brown) available, brown sugar is the sugar of choice.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup of sweet almond oil
  • 20 drops of vanilla oil or 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence

In a small bowl, add the sugar, essential oil and start mixing properly. Make sure you are adding the almond oil gradually. Stop mixing when the scrub reaches a moist sand consistency and start exfoliating your body.

Ground Coffee

Apart from having a great smell, caffeine is something that has multiple benefits to your skin. It is a vasoconstrictor, which means it can cause the “blood vessels to constrict,” and it can temporarily reduce rosacea and varicose veins.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of ground coffee
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1/3 cup of sweet almond oil
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 8 drops of grapefruit oil, 8 drops of orange and 4 drops of peppermint

In a bowl, mix coffee, salt, and essential oils together. Once it reaches a moist sand consistency, stop mixing and start exfoliating your body.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is one of the gentlest exfoliants out there and the gentlest of DIY body scrubs on our list. It is an emollient meaning it will hydrate and soften the skin. It has been used for over decades as a remedy to cure itchy and dry skin.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of finely ground oatmeal
  • 8 drops of lavender oil, 8 drops of tangerine, 8 drops of rosewood, and 4 drops of chamomile
  • 1 tablespoon of dried lavender petals (optional)

In a bowl, add the essential oils drop-by-drop and keep mixing so no clumps form. Add water to form a paste and start applying it to your skin.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a great ingredient for curing acne (and other blemishes), it enhances the complexion, reduces the appearance of fine lines, soothes dry skin, and prevents skin infections while curing cuts. In addition, it effectively gets rid of dead skin cells without damaging the outer layer of skin.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • ½ cup of melted coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon

In a bowl, add all the ingredients together. When it reaches a moist sand consistency stop mixing and start exfoliating your body.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is used in numerous beauty products and for good reasons. Naturally, coconut oil is an anti-fungal and antibacterial. It moisturizes the skin really well because it penetrates into the skin better while providing endless benefits.

You will need:

  • ¼ cup of granulated sugar
  • ½ cup of coconut oil

In a bowl, add the ingredients and start mixing. When the mixture reaches a moist sand consistency, stop mixing and start exfoliating your body.

These are the top 6 DIY body scrubs that are effective in eliminating dead skin cells from all over your body. An added bonus is, they’re all natural and very affordable.
