How to Effectively Treat Warts?

warts

When warts appear on the skin, you might consider them as harmless growths came out of nowhere, but the fact is that warts are actually a common skin infection caused by the HPV infection.

The virus first attacks the outer layer of the skin, which causes a tiny scratch or mark on the skin, but this should not appear similar to an age spot. Gradually, the tiny scar leads to the rapid growth of the cells on the same spot, creating a wart.

You might be wondering what causes warts in the first place and if there is any way to treat them. Well, this article will help you figure out both of these questions.

What Causes Warts?

If you have any type of skin wart on any part of your body, it means that you came in contact with a wart-causing virus. The common way to suffer from this kind of virus is the direct skin-to-skin contact. It is highly possible that shaking hands with another person who already has a skin wart, may cause you to get one on your skin too.

Human touch isn’t the only way to get skin warts. In fact, you can also get the virus from inanimate objects like using a towel that has been used by someone with a wart.

What needs to be remembered is that the viruses are mostly caused when they come in contact with an already damaged or cut skin. A simple scratch on your skin can easily get you a skin wart.

How to Treat Warts?

1. Use Creams or Gels with Salicylic Acid

Most of the over-the-counter creams and gels contain salicylic acid which helps to treat warts. However, salicylic acid is acidic in nature and directly applying it on the skin can damage your healthy skin. So, it is ideal to first apply petroleum jelly to your skin around the wart to protect the skin from damage.

To make the treatment more effective, you can soak your skin where the wart is in water for about 5 minutes and then apply the medication.

2. Duct Tape

Another way to get rid of skin warts is by using duct tape. What you need to do is to cover the skin wart with duct tape (you can also use other tapes like an electrical tape).

The tape must stay on your skin all the time (at least a week), and replaced frequently. This technique will help suffocate the virus. At the end of the sixth or seventh day, remove the tape, and soak the wart in water. Gently massage it with a pumice stone or a nail file. Repeat the process, until the wart is removed.

3. Cantharidin

Cantharidin is a chemical substance that is used on the skin wart to help get it removed quickly. The chemical is derived from the Blister Beetles, which literally blisters up and peels the infection from the skin. This procedure may leave scars on your skin but the wart will be easily removed. A good product to remove warts is Compound W Strength Wart Remover.

Skin warts are unpleasant to the eyes, and treating them is very important. Using the ways (mentioned above) can help you get rid of them easily.
