We all know the benefits of drinking coffee. For example, one cup of coffee contains several nutrients, including B vitamins, magnesium, and potassium. But do you know the benefits of coffee when used on the skin? Gently massage over problem areas, it can reduce puffy eyes, the appearance of cellulite, and improve skin texture. Recently, we got our hands on Life’s Butter Coffee Scrub + Cacao, an organic exfoliant rich with skin nutrients.
Most coffee scrubs are designed to:
- Reduce inflammation
- Improve blood circulation
- Polish off dead skin cells
- Reduce puffy eyes (when applied to the face)
- Reduce the appearance of cellulite
So this is what we looked for when sampling their product.
What is Life’s Butter?
Life’s Butter is a beauty company with a purpose. You may know of their extremely effective dry brush and anti-cellulite treatment cream. The company’s skincare products target common problematic areas on the body, such as cellulite. Their message is one of body positivity and self-confidence, helping women live their best, healthiest life. If that’s not reason enough to love them, all of their products are made with natural ingredients and are completely free of parabens and sulfate.
Coffee Scrub with Cacao
Formulated with skin-soothing ingredients, the cacao coffee scrub is the second in a line of Life’s Butter’s three scrubs (they also have original and coconut). The coffee beans are very roughly ground but can be used on both the body and face (keep away from eyes) for deliciously smooth skin.
How to Use: According to package instructions, use Life’s Butter Coffee Scrub + Cacao in the shower on wet skin. Scoop a little onto your fingertips and apply to problem areas in gentle, circular motions. Rinse off and pat dry.
First Impressions
It’s a very chunky formula, so right away, we were confident it would properly exfoliate the skin, providing all the benefits that come with it (i.e., improved skin tone, unclogged pores, etc.). Some people recommend using it as the last step in your shower routine, but I applied it as my first step – that way, the other skincare products could penetrate more deeply into the skin.
The coffee granules are rough, but not painful, which lends itself to a satisfying scrub. Because the coffee is enriched with oils, after you rinse away the granules, the oils stay behind, but don’t wash it away! The oils add and lock in moisture, and they’re loaded with antioxidants that have a host of other benefits. So again, don’t wash it away, simply pat it dry with a towel.
Using the scrub was a wonderful experience. Afterward, my skin was buttery soft – back-to-my-teenage-years soft. Over time, coffee scrubs can stimulate collagen production, cell turnover and improve skin texture, made more possible with the right ingredients. It even has the ability to reduce the signs of cellulite.
We also discovered a potentially underestimated benefit of the scrub: it works really well on calloused heels!
What makes it special?
What really makes Life’s Butter special? Their ingredients. All-natural. Organic. Made in the USA. Let’s see what’s behind their coffee scrub formula.

Cacao Powder – Improves premature aging and reduces blemishes.
Final Thoughts
If you have sensitive skin, use caution. But all other skin types will reap its rewards (and there are plenty). It offers too many benefits not to be a keeper in my skin routine.
