Did you know that you might be sabotaging your own skin? The skin, the body’s largest organ, is effected by many different factors and is effected by many elements you may not even be thinking of. For your convenience we have put together a list of everyday things which might be damaging your skin overall – so here’s how to stop hurting your skin. The woman in the mirror will thank you.
1. Weather conditions
Harsh weather conditions can disrupt the skins natural protective barrier. Accordingly, to numerous dermatologists and research, our skin tends to function the best in warm, slightly moist environment. Using products that help in collagen production can strengthen the natural defense shield of your skin and deliver long lasting hydration.
2. Central Cooling and Heating
No one realizes until the damage is done by the temperature inside our home. Yes, that too has an affect on our skin. Central heating and cooling systems rob our skin from all its vital moisture. The combination of cold weather and central heating can be incredibly harsh on the skin and can lead to sensitivity and dry patches on our skin. It also causes dry, dull and shallow complexion along with discoloration. In order to prevent all these issues, you must keep your body hydrated internally and your skin hydrated externally by using facial sprays, etc.
3. Sleep
Sleep is good for your entire body, including the skin. Lack of sleep effects the immune system and increases stress – your body makes more of the stress hormone Cortisol when you are sleep deprived.
Not enough sleep detracts from your skins natural beauty. Inflammatory cells in the body lead to an increase in the breakdown of collagen and hyaluronic acid, the molecules which give your skin its glow and bounce.
4. Sleeping with Makeup on
Falling asleep with your makeup on or leaving your makeup on for a very long period of time can cause problems such as bacterial infections, acne and most importantly clogged pores. It often also leads to skin inflammation and irritation. Your pores need breathing space and clogging them with makeup and dust may be the worst thing you can do. This will increase the size of the pores along with causing discoloration and uneven skin texture. Exfoliating before bed is always a good idea, incase you are too lazy makeup wipes might be your new friend.
5. Touching
Even though touching the face is quite a common habit and you are not the only one doing it, touching it too often and repeatedly can cause clogging of pores and can aggravate dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema.
Excessive touching can even cause eye bags as it decreases the elasticity of the skin there and can cause broken blood vessels. It’s the thinnest area of your face and the skin is more prone to breakage and damage.
The simple most way to break this habit is to always keep and use a hand sanitizer and if you are a prolific fiddler try sitting on your hands to avoid using them for picking on your skin.
