So you’ve tried to get fit in the past, but no matter what you did, you found yourself falling off the wagon. Or maybe you gave it a shot but you didn’t know where to start. No matter what your problem was in the past, today is a new day and it’s time to incorporate effective fitness tips into your routine. Here are six tips that will help you get in shape and stay in shape.

Get in the Right Mind Set

This is a fitness tip that you probably don’t think about because you’re more concerned with diet and exercise. But let’s face it: if you aren’t in the mind set to get in shape, then it probably won’t happen. Our brains are designed to keep us from doing anything challenging, different or scary. That’s why it’s important to defer this mentality with a concrete fitness plan. At the start of each week, create a fitness schedule with realistic but challenging activities.  Tackle it one day at a time. Don’t overwhelm yourself by looking at how much you need to accomplish for the entire week.

Mix it Up

You don’t have to go to the gym everyday and jog 30 minutes on the treadmill. Mix up your routine so it doesn’t bore you after the first week. Try something exciting that you haven’t done before. Join a hot yoga class or a barre class, try Zumba or join a running club. Just understand that if you do the same thing over and over again, you are less likely to keep up with your fitness routine. Let’s not forget that our bodies grow accustom to exercises and it becomes more difficult to lose weight when you continuously do the same thing.

Create Incentives

Another fitness tip to stay motivated is to reward yourself after you complete your goals. That gives you an incentive to continue your fitness routine, whether it involves diet or exercise.

Get in Shape with a Buddy

Here’s one of the most effective fitness tips. We all need support when we’re trying something new or challenging. Studies have shown that when we get in shape in a group or with another person, we become more motivated to accomplish our fitness goals. So don’t do this on your own. Find a workout buddy, set your goals with them and achieve these goals together. Remember to stay positive and motivate each other.

Keep it Simple

Make sure your fitness plan is simple and realistic. Fab diets may appear fun on social media, but they may be too challenging for your current fitness level. Learn to start things off slowly and progress gradually. A common mistake people make is to change everything at one. That is unrealistic. If you’re trying to eat healthier, don’t replace all of your meals with fruits and vegetables. If you want to master 100 burpees, don’t start with 50. Start it off simple and understand that you’ll eventually get there.

Don’t Create Excuses

Out of all these fitness tips, this may be the hardest to do. It’s easy to create excuses when we don’t want to do something. However, if you maintain a positive mind set, mix up your workout routines, reward yourself with every accomplishment, workout with a friend and create a simple fitness routine, you are less likely to create excuses.
