It’s very tempting to waste money on lip scrubs. Companies know how to suck us in with their promotional strategies. In the end, they make lip scrubs so desirable, you’re willing to spend $8 on a .34 oz jar. That’s a little ridiculous, don’t you think?
Our solution has and will always be DIY lip scrubs. We mad one in the past with brown sugar and honey, however the honey doesn’t make it vegan friendly. Because of that, we came up with a “vegan” DIY Vaseline & Olive Oil lip lip scrub that everyone can enjoy. Furthermore, it’s an effortless, affordable recipe. Better yet, most of us own over half the ingredients.
DIY Vaseline Olive Oil Lip Scrub
To get started, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon Vaseline
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tinted lip balm
- Small container
*Buy a very affordable lip balm, like e.l.f. Cosmetics Lip Kiss Balm.
*You can use fine grain or coarse grain white sugar. We prefer fine grain.
*You can use any type of petroleum jelly you prefer – not only Vaseline.
Now let’s mix up some magic:
- In a small container, mix 1 tablespoon of Vaseline with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and one tinted lip balm (the entire stick). Mix until smooth.
- Add 2 tablespoons of white sugar to the Vaseline / olive oil mix and mix until smooth.
Voila! You’re all set!
Application
Smear the DIY Vaseline & Olive Oil lip scrub onto your lips with a gentle bristled toothbrush (the best one is a children’s toothbrush). Next, rub in circular motions for a few seconds. Make sure not to over-exfoliate. Another method is to apply the lip scrub, leave it on for a few minutes and then rub it off with a damp rag.
Ingredients with Benefits
Vaseline: Vaseline, or petroleum jelly is good for soothing dry, chapped, weathered lips. Not only that, it’s an excellent moisture barrier.
Sugar: This tasty ingredient is a humectant. If you don’t know by now, humectants draw in moisture from the environment. This creates hydrated, plumper lips. Furthermore, sugar is a wonderful exfoliator. It sloughs off dead skin to reveal the glowing skin underneath.
Olive Oil: Olive oil is a moisturizing ingredient. For dry lips, you can apply a small amount of olive oil for hydration to prevent them from becoming chapped. Together, olive oil and sugar make for a good lip scrub.
Lip Balm: There’s a theme with these ingredients, and that is moisture-i-zation. In addition to olive oil and vaseline, the lip balm hydrates your lips and heals chapped, bruised lips quickly. If you are a vegan, make sure to find a vegan lip balm (which you most likely already own).
With these moisturizing and exfoliating ingredients, your lips will look smooth, young, plump and beautiful.
