The Benefits of Aloe Vera for Skin & How to Use

aloe vera

A long time ago, Egyptians called Aloe Vera the “plant of immortality” for its many medicinal purposes. The gel from the aloe plant can soothe skin, diminish scars and even heal wounds. This “magical” plant treats a variety of skin conditions, like dry skin sunburns and scalp issues. Men can even use the gel as an aftershave. Aloe Vera may be better than store-bought aftershaves since it is all-natural and has healing properties to treat abrasions caused by shaving.

But Wait – There’s More

Now here are the reasons why we’re in love with Aloe Vera and why we believe more people should be incorporating it into their skincare routines.

Aloe Vera is a natural ingredient that decreases the signs of aging. Its antioxidants diminish fine lines and increase elasticity in the skin. For those who don’t already know, our skin is elastic. Elastin returns our skin to its original shape after it stretches due to every day activities. And when we say “activities”, we’re talking about the bare minimum: facial expressions, frowning and tension in our face all cause the skin to age. You can use Aloe Vera gel to keep your skin firm and hydrated.

This natural ingredient is our defense against everything impure and harsh on our skin.

Environmental pollutants may damage our skin, but it’s said that chemicals found in skincare products cause even more damage. If you’re guilty of buying synthetic or toxic beauty products (as we most are), Aloe is right there to protect you – if you have it on hand, which you should.

You can find aloe gel in most stores, but we recommend Amara Organics Aloe Vera Gel.

In aloe’s gel, you’ll find:

  • Bioactive compounds
  • Vitamins (A, B, C, D, E, B12)  and minerals
  • Copper
  • Potassium (good for skin hydration and moisture)
  • Amino acids
  • Antioxidants (always good for healthy skin)
There are many ways to use aloe, but thanks to its anti-microbial properties, we found it works best in the form of a face wash. These properties work to heal blemishes and scars often caused by acne – very similar to our baking soda facials but perhaps less messy. We also recommend using it as a daily lotion, so be sure to try our DIY multi-purpose beauty lotion with Aloe Vera and coconut oil. It is heavenly.

Aloe Vera Gel Face Wash

We found this recipe from Fab How so kudos to them.

What You Need:

  • 2 tablespoons Aloe Vera Gel
  • 1 tablespoon almond oil
  • 1 tablespoon rose water
  • 2 teaspoons castille soap
  • 3-4 drops lavender essential oil
  • 2-3 drops vitamin E oil

Here’s how to Prepare it:

  • Pour aloe vera gel in medium sized bowl
  • Add almond oil and rose water
  • Pour in vitamin E oil
  • Add lavender essential oil

Mix the ingredients until smooth. Pour the mixture into a glass bottle.

How to Use it:

According to Fab How, massage a couple drops of the face wash on your face every morning and evening. Let it penetrate for 30-60 seconds then rinse off with lukewarm water. Always shake it before use because water and oil don’t mix well together.

If you try this DIY face wash, you’ll love it immediately. You may even replace your current face wash with this one.
