Sleep Deprivation

If you often wake up with your eyes swollen shut, you may not be getting enough sleep. Getting a good night sleep is the easiest way of reducing the puffiness. Dehydration

Puffy eyes can be a sign of dehydration. It is common to wake up with swollen eyes when you are not drinking enough water. Drink at least 8 glasses of water to make sure you are properly hydrated. Remember, dehydration is a serious matter that can adversely affect a number of the core functions of your body including blood circulation.

Excessive Use of Salt

Since salt can cause fluid retention in the body which can lead to puffy eyes. The American Heart Association recommends limiting sodium intake to 1,500 mg per day. You can reduce the salt consumption by steering clear of processed foods. Instead, try to opt for whole foods such as fruits and vegetables.

Sometimes puffy eyes can be an indication of a serious medical condition. If you experience puffiness for an extended period of time or your eyes get red and itchy, it is advisable to see a doctor.
