I recently reached out to Parris Wells, Marketing Communications Manager at Petal Fresh, an all-natural beauty website. I received their Pure Argan Oil and Shea Body Scrub ($9.89), but before I gave it a try, I wanted to learn more about the product. I went in with high hopes: Petal Fresh products contain certified organic ingredients and produce quality, natural ingredients.
Once receiving the body scrub, I took a whiff and went to cloud nine. This may sound cheesy, but the fragrance is truly heavenly. Not only will this scrub leave your body smooth and moist, you’re left with an amazing smell throughout the day.
Aside from the smell, I was curious as to how the Petal Fresh body scrub stands out from the rest. Furthermore, why combine Argan Oil and Shea butter? Together, these ingredients are a seemingly luxurious combination, but I wanted to know their actual benefits.
“Argan Oil and Shea Butter are two exceptional hydrators,” explains Wells. “Argan Oil is rich in fatty acids and vitamin E, which soften, moisturize and repair dry skin, while shea butter protects the skin’s natural oils, reduces inflammation and soothes irritation. This is a winning combination for exfoliation, particularly if you are concerned about dry, sensitive skin.”
What stands out to me is that it works especially well for people who have dry skin, sensitive skin and perhaps even combination skin. Personally, I fall into that category. I shared the scrub with a co-worker, who has a normal skin type, to compare her results with mine.
My Experience with Argan Oil & Shea Body Scrub
I followed the instructions to properly apply a body scrub. As a side note, I have experienced body scrubs in the past, but they left me with soar skin and distaste for body scrubs. Yet this one one by Petal Fresh was perfect for my dry, extremely sensitive skin. The walnut shell powder was a pleasant change from large, abrasive granules. It left me so smooth with moisturized skin. Furthermore, the application felt great and the scrub did its job of sloughing off dead skin cells. Mild moisturizers provide moisturizing benefits because they allow the skin to better absorb moisturizing ingredients. So to amp things up, I immediately applied a body oil.
“Our Argan Oil and Shea Body Scrub is uniquely formulated with walnut shell powder creating a delicate yet effective body scrub that leaves the skin healthy and glowing.” – Parris Wells
My Co-Workers Experience with Argan Oil & Shea Body Scrub
We had only one thing in common: we both thought the smell was amazing. However, her experience was different than mine. When I asked what she thought about it, she explained that it was a good scrub but it didn’t exfoliate as much as she would have liked. It was too subtle for her skin.
That being said, it cleansed her skin nicely and left her clean, soft and fairly satisfied. In her opinion, the product is good so she continues to use it.
Benefits + Application of Body Scrubs
Sometimes I remove facial exfoliation from my skincare routine. It can leave my skin so sensitive, my daily skincare products hurt when I apply them. So when it comes to exfoliating my entire body with a body scrub, I am no aficionado. However, Wells is and she explained the importance of exfoliating your body.
“Exfoliation is most often discussed in relation to the face,” Wells explains, “however, it is imperative to exfoliate the entire body to remove dead skin cells sitting on the surface of the skin, which tend to clog and irritate pores. Exfoliation can prevent ingrown hairs, it helps to ease the visible signs of aging and it always reveals the most vibrant and glowing “baby” skin underneath.”
To add to add to this statement, it also repairs dry, flaky skin.
Fine lines already exist on my chest, so I will implement body scrubs in my routine – and it begins with the reviving Argan Oil & Shea Body Scrub. To avoid over-exfoliation, I found out how often to use the product.
“How frequently you use our Argan Oil and Shea Body Scrub depends on your skin type,” says Wells. “Our recommendation is to start using our scrub 1-2 times per week and gradually increase usage, based on sensitivity, to 3-4 times per week.”
For my skin type and others whose type is similar, use it 1-2 times a week. For others, such as my co-worker, it can most likely be used 3-4 times a week.
Would I recommend this product?
I would recommend this product to everyone I know, no matter what their skin type. It does two jobs: exfoliates and moisturizes the skin. I wouldn’t recommend this to people who have a normal skin type, except during the winter months. Gentle exfoliators are preferred that time of year, and rather than drying out your skin, the scrub will aid in moisturization.
If you’re on the market for a new body scrub, I recommend Petal Fresh Argan Oil & Shea Body Scrub.
