3 Common Mistakes to Avoid In Your Skincare Routine

Everyone wants a healthy skin. A glowing, radiant skin is the sign of your inner health and wellbeing. In addition, your skin is the most prominent feature of your body. This is precisely why it is so imperative to make a habit of following a healthy skincare routine, religiously.

Often times, however, people develop the wrong habits while practicing for their skincare. While you may think you’re being productive with your skincare, you’re in fact making it worse.

Below are the 3 common mistakes you need to avoid in your skincare routine for a healthy and well-maintained skin:

1. Over-Exfoliating

Exfoliation is vital for your skin. It removes the dead skin cells and deeply cleans the pores, making your skin oil and dirt free.

However, a common mistake to avoid is over-exfoliation. People with oil skins feel exceptionally relieved after exfoliation. However, they fail to understand that scrubbing the skin too much can potentially irritate the skin and end up damaging it. This causes the skin to produce excessive sebum, making your skin oilier than it is.

To avoid over exfoliation, it is ideal to exfoliate once or twice a week only for a healthy skincare routine.

2. Multiple Products At A Time

Once upon a time, we were concerned with just the basics of skincare i.e. cleaning and moisturizing. But now, with the amount of products flooding the market and the flaws being propagates by the media, women worry about masks, facials, exfoliation, toning, anti-aging and anti-wrinkle treatments.

The biggest mistake to avoid while establishing a healthy skincare routine is using multiple products at a time. Using too many products at once can result in acne breakout, red spots, flaking, skin irritation etc. This is because your skin is sensitive and using too many products means using too many chemicals at once, which makes your skin react aggressively.

To avoid these reactions, stick to washing, cleansing and moisturizing. You can add exfoliation once or twice a week to your skincare routine as well.

3. Following the Incorrect Order

The most basic mistake to avoid while trying to construct a healthy skincare routine is following the products in the wrong order.

The right order is as follows:

  1. Cleansing:
  • Washing your face on a daily basis, preferably with an anti-bacterial face wash
  • Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week, not more than that.
  • Applying a mask that suits your skin type once or twice a week.
  • Toning
  • Moisturizing on a daily basis after you thoroughly wash and cleanse your skin

The key to a healthy skincare routine is taking into account all the right steps that ensure hygienic standards are met. For hygienic purposes, always apply makeup with clean and washed brushes, puffs, and/or blenders.

An excellent way of keeping your makeup essentials clean is to always cover them in plastic wraps or place them in zip-lock bags that prevent exposure to dirt or debris.
