While many people can easily try on just about any new cosmetic or skincare product, those with sensitive skin have to think twice before doing so. You have to read the labels on the product to see if it’s suitable for sensitive skin. You ask yourself whether you should try a certain product without worrying about a rash or break out. Sensitive skin can be affected from anything form bad weather to a foundation.
However, this does not mean you mustn’t have a skincare routine and leave your skin be. If you don’t have a skincare routine then here are the steps to build one for yourself.
Step 1—Cleanser
Every skincare regimen starts off with a cleanser regardless of the skin type you have. Sensitive skin also gets oil, dirt and makeup clogged in the pores therefore it is important to cleanse it with a mild product that won’t be harsh on the skin, such as Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser.
Don’t use any oil cleanser as it might end up breaking you out and steer clear of alcohol based cleansers because they tend to dry out your skin and make it flaky.
Another good cleanser for sensitive skin is micellar water. It’s hydrating, doesn’t fry or grease up the skin and removes dirt and makeup easily.
Step 2—Toner
This is an optional step but if you want to make sure your skin’s pH levels are balanced and pores are tightened, then a toner is a must. Again, don’t go for any alcohol based toners as they are harsh for sensitive skin.
Opt for herbal toners or better yet, use rose water and apply it with a cotton swab all over the face. You can easily make your own rose water at home.
Step 3—Face wash
Use a gentle and moisturizing face wash that will leave your skin soft, supple and won’t bring about any redness or irritation. Look for labels with ‘Suitable for normal, dry and sensitive skin’.
Step 4—Moisturizer
A non-comodegenic and fragrance free moisturizer is every sensitive skin’s best friend. Non-comodegenic won’t clog pores, but we all know that fragrance will likely irritate your sensitive skin. You don’t end up with breakouts or rashes and your skin gets the optimum amount of hydration.
Step 5—Sunscreen
If it isn’t in your daytime skincare routine then make sure you never head out without any SPF 50 sunscreen. You don’t want to end up with sun burns and a blotchy face now do you? When you have sensitive skin, the harsh rays of the sun pose a greater threat by making it more prone to sunburns, age spots and even skin cancer.
Step 6 – Night cream
Waking up to fresh and plump skin is a dream for many. This can be done if you wear a night cream. Just apply a thin layer all over the face in an upward or circular motion and that’s it.
Lastly, make sure you never fall asleep with your makeup on as it will end up irritating your skin further. Use these 5 steps for your sensitive skin and make it look flawless!
